A child’s early years are predominantly spent learning many things for the very first time. Between a child\u2019s first steps, potty training, learning colors and numbers, and socializing, it\u2019s no wonder that a child may feel a little self-conscious at times. This is why it\u2019s incredibly important for us as adults to help build self-esteem in children as often as possible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Helping a child feel good about themselves through praise, positive reinforcement, and proper communication should always be a good experience for the child. However the opportunity presents itself, there are endless possibilities for helping build a child\u2019s self-esteem. But to make it more enjoyable and even fun, here are some activities you can play with your child that will help.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Self-Empowerment Flower<\/span><\/h3>\n

Few things allow self-expression the way arts and crafts do. When a child is able to express themselves freely in a positive environment, you\u2019ll be able to see their self-esteem and confidence bloom.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re centering specifically on a child\u2019s self-esteem, focus on the crafts that bring out their unique qualities. For instance, use construction paper to cut out strips for flower petals and have your child write (or dictate to you for you to write) qualities they love about themselves. Then have them paste these petals around a flower they\u2019ve cut out or colored. When your kid has pasted all the petals on their self-empowerment flower, hang it up where she\u2019ll see it often and can remind herself how amazing and unique she is.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Follow the Leader<\/span><\/h3>\n

Your child is a natural learner and follower, following your guidance and instructions on a daily basis. However, in order to really help boost your child\u2019s self-esteem, allow your little one to lead in a game of Follow the Leader. This will not only be fun for everyone, but it will teach your young leader that they\u2019re capable of successfully giving directions to others. Additionally, Follow the Leader helps build communication skills because it requires your child to articulate instructions to others well enough for them to understand.<\/span><\/p>\n

Write a Mini Book<\/span><\/h3>\n

Even as adults, it can be pretty challenging to maintain our self-esteem because we don\u2019t practice articulating our own good qualities enough. The same challenge occurs within our children.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One way to really help your children articulate their good qualities for a self-esteem boost is to have them write a book about themselves. To do this, cut printer paper in half and stack as many pieces as you want on top of each other. Then staple the pieces together and fold them in half to create a book. Afterward, write, \u201cI Am\u2026\u201d on the cover and have your child fill in the rest of the book with words of affirmations and pictures. The pages could read, \u201cI am brave,\u201d and have an image of a little kid skateboarding for the first time. This will help your child really focus on parts of herself that she especially notices and likes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Geocaching<\/span><\/h3>\n

Naturally, whenever someone, especially a child, is able to solve a problem, there\u2019s a huge sense of accomplishment. Geocaching is a game that can help a child build their self-esteem by finding hidden objects around a town through a series of clues offered online. With an adult\u2019s help, a child can search for these hidden treasures. Additionally, geocaching allows the child to feel like a part of something bigger than them. No matter what your child\u2019s skill level is, they can feel accomplished after a day of geocaching.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
