A child who understands how his body functions better understands how to keep it healthy and active. Additionally, a child who is able to maintain a healthy body is able to grow up into an adult who takes care of their body as well.<\/p>\n

Because the topic of bodies can be quite complex, we’ve put together a list of activities you can do with your preschooler to help them learn all about them!<\/p>\n

Do a Body Tracing Activity<\/h2>\n

This is a fun and interactive activity where your preschooler lays on a large piece of paper and you trace the outline of their body. After you’ve traced the outline of their body, give them paints, crayons, colored pencils, or other coloring mediums and let them color themselves in! Your preschooler may have a blast expressing their own interpretation of their looks by coloring their hair and clothes in unique patterns.<\/p>\n

Create a Straw Skeleton<\/h2>\n

This activity isn’t just skin-deep! This activity goes over what lies beneath – the skeleton. While the activity requires only few materials (construction paper, straws,<\/p>\n

scissors, and glue), it offers a huge introductory explanation about the skeletal system. Your little one can learn about ribs, different arm and leg bones, hand and feet bones, and joints! Additionally, October is an even better month to do this activity as it combines an educational experience as well as a fun Halloween project.<\/p>\n

MOld PLAYDOUGH Skeleton and Skin Models<\/h2>\n

Molding playdough skeleton and skin models teaches the student to combine their knowledge gained from the above activities into one, hands-on activity! Now that your preschooler knows about their body outlines, their skeletons, and the functions of their different body parts, he can now learn about how skin wraps around the skeleton using two simple materials: toothpicks and playdough.<\/p>\n

To start, have your preschooler mold a body, a head, two arms, and two legs. Once they have completed this, help them stick the toothpicks into the arms, legs, and head and connect them to the body. Explain how the toothpicks represent the bones and the playdough represents everything else.<\/p>\n
