Spring cleaning is an annual tradition that many families look forward to as a chance to get rid of the clutter and dirt that has accumulated over the year, and to start fresh with a clean home. While it may seem like a daunting task, it can actually be made easier by involving your preschooler!
The first step in involving your preschooler in spring cleaning is to create an age-appropriate chore chart.
This will help them understand what tasks they are responsible for and give them a sense of accomplishment when they complete them! Some age-appropriate chores for preschoolers include putting away toys, helping load laundry, helping mop or wipe up spills, watering plants, and dusting.
Once you have created a chore chart, it is time to start cleaning.
To make the process easier and more enjoyable for your preschooler, try cleaning by room. This will help them focus on one task at a time and make it easier for you to supervise! You can take on the adult chores while also supervising your preschooler. For example, you can vacuum while they dust off a table or sweep while they mop up behind you.
To make spring cleaning even more special, dedicate a day to it and make it a fun activity.
Play music, celebrate completing tasks, and have fun snacks for breaks. This will help keep your preschooler engaged and motivated to help out.
By involving your preschooler in spring cleaning, you can teach them important life skills while also spending quality time together. With some preparation, supervision, and companionship, spring cleaning can be an enjoyable experience for the whole family. So don’t be afraid to get your preschooler involved this year!
