Staying inside during a rainy day with a toddler doesn\u2019t always allow your toddler the freedom and opportunity to express all her energy the way she could outdoors. Sometimes this can even leave us feeling anxious, bored, or pent up. Here are five ways you can help your toddler express her energy in fun ways during those rainy days!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n

HOLD A CONCERT<\/b><\/h4>\n

While taking a toddler to a concert isn\u2019t likely to happen, you can still bring the musical festivities right to your own living room. This is a fun way to incorporate playing dress-up as well. Let your toddler pick out her outfit, put on her favorite soundtrack from her favorite movie\/s, sit back, and enjoy the show. Your toddler will love for you to join in intermittently as well, even if it is just backup vocals. If you\u2019re looking for extra props, cut out microphones from cardboard boxes.<\/p>\n

BAKE<\/b><\/h4>\n

Rainy days usually call for improvising with the kids. No matter if you cook regularly or not, rainy days are the perfect time to incorporate your toddler\u2019s baking skills into a fun activity. Pull out your favorite dessert recipes and get to baking! Baking is an easy activity your toddler can join in by pouring the flour, cracking the eggs, and even licking the bowls and spoons clean. He\u2019s sure to feel so proud of himself once the sweets are done and you can sit down to enjoy them with him.<\/p>\n

MAKE HOMEMADE PLAYDOUGH<\/b><\/h4>\n

Making homemade playdough with the kids is an interactive activity that incorporates many learning opportunities from making the dough to playing with it!<\/p>\n

INGREDIENTS<\/b><\/p>\n

1 cup all-purpose flour<\/p>\n

1 cup water<\/p>\n

2 teaspoons cream of tartar<\/p>\n

1\/3 cup salt<\/p>\n

1 tablespoon vegetable oil<\/p>\n

food coloring<\/p>\n

INSTRUCTIONS<\/b><\/h5>\n

Mix together all the ingredients in a saucepan.<\/p>\n

While constantly stirring, cook over low-medium heat.<\/p>\n

Continue to stir until the mixture thickens and begins to clump.<\/p>\n

Remove the dough onto wax paper or a plate to cool.<\/p>\n

Depending on how many colors you want will determine how many batches you\u2019ll make. Once the mixture has completely cooled, you\u2019ll then need to store it when it\u2019s not in use in a Ziploc bag or a sealable container.<\/p>\n

BUILD A FORT<\/b><\/h4>\n

There\u2019s a reason that building a fort is a tradition that never fails \u2013 because it\u2019s so much fun! Building a fort requires a ton of imagination and very little effort. Couch cushions, pillows, throw blankets, chairs and high chairs can all be used to help structure your fort. When you\u2019re done, have quiet time in your new fort, or read stories to your toddler. If you\u2019re lucky, you may even be able to get a nap inside your new fort!<\/p>\n

CREATE A DRY ERASE<\/b> SCENE<\/strong> ON THE WINDOWS<\/b><\/h4>\n

Rain can cause a toddler to feel trapped indoors. Do you have dry erase markers? Well grab them and cheer your toddler up by allowing her to draw a scene of her choice on the window or patio door. This is a great opportunity for your child to explore her imagination and to design a scene that she would like to see. This is also a wonderful time to incorporate lessons on colors and easy site words and pictures like \u201csun,\u201d \u201ctree,\u201d and \u201cdog.\u201d<\/p>\n
